Sources: Blackburn Rovers and Bristol City race to sign Arsenal starlet Ryan Alebiosu
Blackburn Rovers and Bristol City are plotting moves to sign Arsenal wide man Ryan Alebiosu, Football Insider understands.
The 20-year-old, who has been on the bench twice for Arsenal this season, shone in a productive loan spell with Crewe Alexandra during the second half of the season.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Championship duo Rovers and City lead the race to sign Alebiosu this summer.
The Premier League giants are willing to listen to offers for the youngster, who can play right-back or right-wing.
Alebiosu made six starts for Crewe during his temporary spell with The Railwaymen, but could not stop David Artell’s side from suffering relegation to League Two.
The youngster’s loan was punctuated by a two-month injury layoff – during which time he returned to Arsenal to receive treatment for a back problem.
The London-born wing-back was a key part of the Gunners’ Under-23 side during the first half of the current campaign.
He notched one goal and seven assists in 14 appearances in Premier League 2 and the EFL Trophy.
Alebiosu, who joined Arsenal at just eight years old, signed his first professional contract in the summer of 2020.
The 20-year-old is yet to make his senior bow for Mikel Arteta’s side.
However, he has trained regularly with the first team since signing pro terms.
The Gunners will miss out on Champions League qualification if they cannot better Tottenham’s result on Sunday (22 May).
Blackburn and Bristol City will both play Championship football again next term after finishing eighth and 17th respectively.
Both sides currently deploy systems which utilise three centre-backs and wing-backs.
