Blackburn Rovers are in advanced talks to sign Sheffield United forward Oliver Burke, Football Insider understands.

The Championship club are long-term admirers of the Scotland international and tried to sign him in the summer transfer window.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Blackburn have rekindled their interest in Burke, 24, and are negotiating a January deal.

Rovers boss Tony Mowbray is keen to bring in former Celtic and Nottingham Forest attacker to bolster his side's promotion bid.

Sheffield United will not stand in Burke’s way as he is well down the pecking order at Bramall Lane.

Football Insider reported at the end of the summer window (31 August) Rovers were trying to sign him on loan but a deal failed to be completed.

Since then his only appearance for the Blades came in the Carabao Cup defeat to Southampton in September.

He has been named on the bench in four of their last five Championship games after recovering from an injury.

Blackburn want to bring in attacking reinforcements as they look to maintain their promotion charge.

They entered the automatic places over the festive period but Fulham, who are only a point behind them, have two games in hand.

Burke has scored six times in 33 Championship games for Nottingham Forest, West Brom and Sheffield United.

Paul Heckingbottom's side are up to the 13th in the table after he took over towards the end of last year (25 November).
