Sources: Bournemouth ready £10m bid for Middlesbrough star Marcus Tavernier
Bournemouth are preparing a £10m bid for Middlesbrough midfield Marcus Tavernier, Football Insider understands.
The Premier League new boys have made the 23-year-old one of their top targets this summer.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Bournemouth are readying a formal move for Tavernier as they look to reinforce their attacking midfield positions.
Boro are reluctant to lose one of their key players but know they will find it hard to keep him after missing out on promotion in 2021-22.
The north-east club are already close to cashing in on their other prize asset, Djed Spence.
Football Insider exclusively revealed on Friday morning that Tottenham are in advanced talks to sign the right wing-back in a deal worth £20million.
Losing both players would likely lead to criticism of the Championship club’s ambitions.
Nevertheless, Tavernier is out of contract in the summer of 2023 and this summer represents the last opportunity to secure a major fee for him if he does not extend his terms.
He had an impressive 21-22 campaign as Boro finished seventh on 70 points.
The Leeds-born Riverside academy product made 43 league starts among 48 appearances in all competitions, which yielded five goals and five assists.
He operated in central midfield as well in more attacking roles, both centrally and out wide.
Tavernier has made 155 appearances in total for Boro, scoring 18 goals and laying on 18 assists, and also had a spell on loan at MK Dons.
