Bradford City are in talks to sign Portsmouth goalkeeper Alex Bass, Football Insider understands.

The 23-year-old is down the pecking order at Fratton Park and has made just seven appearances in all competitions this season.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Bradford boss Derek Adams has lined up a loan deal for Bass that will run for the rest of the season.

The goalkeeper was absent from the Pompey squad that lost 1-0 at Sunderland on Saturday afternoon.

Toby Steward was instead named on Portsmouth's bench at the Stadium of Light.

Speaking after the loss, Danny Cowley revealed "something will happen relatively imminently" regarding Bass' future.

He added: "Something has already happened but it hasn’t been announced."

Bass has 18 months remaining on his contract on the south coast.

The Englishman is a product of Portsmouth's youth system and made his professional debut for the club in August 2016.

Later than year he joined Salisbury Town on loan.

He also enjoyed a temporary spell at Torquay United in 2018.

In total, Bass has made 41 appearances for Pompey.

His best spell for the club came in the 2019-20 campaign in which he kept eight clean sheets in 25 appearances across all competitions.

Bass looks set to join a Bradford City side struggling for consistency in League One.

Derek Adams' side are currently 12th in League Two after a goalless draw with Rochdale on Saturday.
