Sources: Brentford star Aaron Pressley agrees to join Accrington Stanley
Brentford striker Aaron Pressley has agreed a deal to join Accrington Stanley on loan, sources have told Football Insider.
The 21-year-old is well down the pecking order at the Premier League club and they are happy to loan him out to get valuable first-team action.
Pressley, the son of former Scotland international Steven Pressley, spent last season on loan at AFC Wimbledon, but saw his move hampered by a long-term hamstring problem.
He scored four goals and notched one assist in 27 outings at Wimbledon before his injury in March.
The former Aston Villa youngster will now spend the second half of the season on loan at League One Accrington as they look to secure survival.
Pressley joined Brentford in January 2020 and has made three senior professional appearances for the club.
He is out of contract in the summer but the London side have the option to extend his stay by a further year.
The former Scotland Under-17 international is being allowed to leave on loan despite the uncertainty surrounding Ivan Toney.
Football Insider revealed on Sunday (1 January) that Toney’s injury is not as bad as first feared after he was stretchered off during the win over West Ham last week.
However, the hitman has until Wednesday (4 January) to provide a response to accusations of 262 breaches of the FA’s rules on betting – with a six-month ban reportedly one of many potential punishments if he is found guilty.
Striker Halil Dervisoglu is currently on loan from Brentford at Championship-topping Burnley.
Pressley joins Accrington with the Lancashire side out of the League One drop zone only on goal difference.
John Coleman’s side face Boreham Wood in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday (7 January).
