Brighton are keeping tabs on Coventry City midfielder Gustavo Hamer, Football Insider understands.

The Premier League club are in the market for a defensive midfielder this summer as they look to reshape Graham Potter’s side.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Hamer, 24, is on the radar of Brighton after a series of impressive displays in the Coventry midfield.

The Dutchman, 24, signed a contract extension with the Sky Blues in March that ties him to the club until the summer of 2024.

Hamer has notched three goals and 10 assists in 41 appearances across all competitions for Coventry this term.

The midfield star has been walking a disciplinary tightrope in recent weeks - having accumulated 14 cautions this season.

The Brazillian-born ace started his career at Feyenoord but made his name with spells at Dordrecht and PEC Zwolle.

Coventry swooped for the former Holland Under-20 international in July 2020, paying a reported fee of more than £1million.

He repaid the faith shown by Mark Robins' side by registering five goals and three assists in his first season in English football.

Hamer has claimed (1 May) he has "no idea" what his future holds but insisted he doesn't want to depart the West Midlands club just yet.

Brighton could be without the services of highly-rated midfield star Yves Bissouma next season.

Football Insider revealed last month (7 April) that Aston Villa have registered their interest in signing the Mali international - who is out of contract in June 2023.

Brighton sit ninth in the Premier League on 44 points - their best-ever Premier League total.
