Sources: Bristol City and Swansea City race to sign Hearts star Halkett on cut-price deal
Bristol City and Swansea are eyeing January moves for Hearts defender Craig Halkett, Football Insider has learned.
The centre-back, 26, is out of contract at the end of the season and his suitors can sign him on a cut-price deal in January.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Championship duo Bristol City and Swansea have been making regular checks on Halkett.
The centre-back has played in all but one of Hearts’ Scottish Premiership fixtures this season.
The newly-promoted side sit third in the table.
His performances have caught the eye of scouts south of the border.

Halkett started his career with Rangers but failed to make a senior appearance before leaving Ibrox.
The former Scotland under-19 international joined Livingston on a free transfer in 2016 after loan spells with Clyde and Berwick Rangers.
The defender established himself in the side as Livi earned back-to-back promotions to seal a place in the Scottish Premiership.
His performances earned him a move to Tynecastle in April 2019, joining Hearts on a free contract.
The Edinburgh-based outfit controversially suffered relegation to the second tier during the 2019/20 campaign.
However, they bounced back the following season as league winners.
Bristol City and Swansea are looking to bolster their defensive options after being cut adrift from playoff contention in the Championship.
The two sides sit 17th and 14th respectively. They have both won just a third of their league games this term.
Halkett secured a point for his side against league leaders Rangers by scoring a last-gasp equaliser at Ibrox in October.
