Sources: Bristol Rovers in advanced talks to sign ex-Ipswich striker James Norwood
Bristol Rovers are in advanced talks to sign striker James Norwood, Football Insider understands.
The 31-year-old is a free agent following the expiration of his contract at Ipswich Town.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that League One new boys Rovers are leading the race for Norwood despite strong competition from rivals.
Charlton Athletic, Portsmouth, Oxford United and Plymouth Argyle have all registered interest in Norwood.
All four clubs are looking to bolster their attacks ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.
Norwood joined Ipswich Town from Tranmere Rovers on a free transfer in July 2019.

The centre-forward struggled for regular game time last season under both Paul Cook and Kieran McKenna.
He made 23 league appearances for Ipswich and contributed six goals and three assists.
However, Norwood has proven over the course of his career that he can be a prolific goalscorer in the Football League.
During his time at Tranmere Rovers, the forward scored 89 goals in 179 appearances.
He also provided 28 assists in that time.
Norwood’s potential new side Bristol Rovers managed to secure promotion to League One last season after a remarkable 7-0 victory against Scunthorpe.
The win sealed the Gas a return to the third tier of English football at the first time of asking.
Joey Barton will be hoping Norwood can provide the regular goals to keep Rovers in the division next season.
