Burnley are in advanced talks with Borussia Dortmund to sign veteran defender Thomas Meunier, sources have told Football Insider.

The 32-year-old in closing in on a switch from the Bundesliga giants to the Premier League on loan for the remainder of the season.

Meunier missed the opening stretch of the season with a muscle injury but has since started Dortmund's last six league games.

Burnley, who have the league's second-worst goal difference, are keen on defensive reinforcements.

A move to Turf Moor would see Meunier reunite with ex-teammate Vincent Kompany, who were both regulars for the Belgium national team.

It is believed that the club are keen to bring in the experienced right-back to help fix up their defence as they attempt to escape the relegation zone.

Meunier has had successful spells across Europe with Club Brugge, Paris Saint-Germain and Dortmund, racking up 408 senior appearances and scoring 36 goals.

Burnley have already brought midfielder David Datro Fofana in on loan from Chelsea but could be in line for late additions before the Thursday deadline.

Burnley sit 19th in the Premier League table following their 3-1 defeat to Man City on Wednesday (31 January).

They are next in action against Fulham at Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon (3 February).
