Burnley are in advanced talks to sign Lyon winger Maxwel Cornet for £14million in a blow to Leeds United, Football Insider has been told.

The Lancashire club are working on finalising a deal for the 24-year-old as they look to be multiple rivals in the race.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Burnley are hopeful of beating Hertha Berlin to the capture of Cornet after holding further talks this week.

Sean Dyche's side have offered a package worth up to £14m including add-ons for the wide man.

Leeds have enquired about Cornet this summer but baulked at the asking price.

He is believed to be keen to move to the Premier League after six years at Lyon.

Cornet has a contract with the Ligue 1 big guns that runs until 2023.

He has an impressive track record in the French top tier, where he has been a prolific scorer and creator.

Cornet, who is renowned for his blistering pace, started as a winger but mainly played as a left-back last season and clubs have been attracted to his versatility.

The former Metz star has scored 51 goals for Lyon and supplied 29 assists in 251 appearances across all competitions for.

Dyche wants extra pace in his side as well as more attacking wide options.

He has lamented the lack of winger alternatives to Dwight McNeil and has made it a priority to strengthen before the window shuts.
