Sources: Burnley join race to sign Leeds United star Stuart McKinstry as talks linked up
Burnley have joined the chase for Leeds United midfielder Stuart McKinstry, sources have told Football Insider.
The 20-year-old is attracting the interest of a number of clubs in the Championship ahead of his contract with the Yorkshire giants expiring next summer.
Leeds are planning contract talks with McKinstry, but Burnley are monitoring his situation and are ready to move for him if no new deal can be agreed.
The rising star has also been linked with Sheffield United and Stoke City.
McKinstry is currently on a season-long loan at Motherwell and has impressed during his time back at the club where he made his name.
He came through the ranks at Fir Park then moved to Elland Road in 2019.
The Scotland Under-21 international never made a senior appearance at Motherwell before heading down south.
He was a regular for Leeds’ youth teams but only made two senior appearances, including his Premier League debut last season.
Back at Motherwell, McKinstry has quickly established himself as a regular in the first team.
He has two goals and an assist in nine Scottish Premiership games and was named as the club’s player of the month for October.
Burnley have been aggressive in promoting young talent following their relegation from the Premier League last season.
Vincent Kompany’s side are currently two points clear at the top of the Championship table with the likes of Man City loanees CJ Egan-Riley and Taylor Harwood-Bellis regulars in the starting XI.
