Cardiff City and Blackpool have set their sights on signing ex-Bristol City defender Jack Hunt, Football Insider understands.

The right-back, 30, is available on a free transfer after leaving Ashton Gate at the end of last month.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Cardiff and Blackpool are leading the race for Hunt’s signature.

The Leeds-based defender is a proven Championship operator and has also had extensive spells at Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield Town.

Hunt was an important player for the Robins last season, starting 37 Championship games.

City released 11 players in May as Nigel Pearson attempts to overhaul his squad.

His side went winless in 10 league games at the end of the season as the club fell to 19th.

Hunt joined City in 2018 and made 115 total appearances before being released this summer.

He managed to score five goals for the club during his three-year spell.

Cardiff City have already been busy this summer, signing James Collins and Ryan Wintle on free transfers.

Blackpool are looking to replace right-back Ollie Turton after he left the club to join Huddersfield.

Turton, 28, made 40 league appearances for the Seasiders last season and helped them win the League One playoffs.

He left on a free transfer after failing to agree new terms with his former side.

Hunt's extensive Championship knowledge will make him a valuable asset to any club.

During his career, the defender has racked up 289 outings in England's second tier.
