Sources: Cardiff City and Rotherham United in race to sign Cameron Norman

Cardiff City and Rotherham United are among a host of EFL clubs chasing Newport County defender Cameron Norman this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The two Championship clubs are interested in signing the 27-year-old right-back as a free agent this summer.

Norman was a standout player for Newport in the 2022/23 campaign, playing in all 46 league fixtures for a second successive season to help the Welsh side to a 15th-placed finish in England’s fourth tier.

He made 53 appearances across all competitions for a remarkable total of 4,502 minutes and chipped in with five goals in the process.

Norman’s incredible consistency was acknowledged by both fans and teammates in Newport’s recent end-of-season awards, with the English defender named the Player of the Season as well as the Players’ Player of the Season.

He is out of contract with Newport next month, and it is understood that the League Two side are pushing to try and tie him down to a new deal.

But clubs from the Championship, League One and League Two are all actively monitoring Norman’s situation and are ready to put a number of offers on the table for him this summer.

Norman started his career at boyhood club Norwich City, working his way through the club’s academy before graduating to the first team in 2014.

However, he failed to make a single senior appearance for the Canaries and instead worked his way up through the divisions with spells at Norwich United, King’s Lynn Town, Oxford United and Walsall before he was offered a two-year deal at Newport in 2021.
