Sources: Cardiff City, Derby County, Preston and Huddersfield race to sign Hull City star Elder

Cardiff City, Derby County, Preston North End and Huddersfield Town are interested in signing Hull City defender Callum Elder, Football Insider can reveal.

The Australian left-back was outstanding for Hull as they won promotion from League One and he was named in League One EFL Team of the Year.

A source has told Football Insider that Hull are braced for bids from the Championship big guns.

Elder provided 10 assists and scored one goal in 42 League One appearances for the Tigers last term.

He is now entering the final year of his Hull contract after penning a three-year deal when he arrived from Leicester City in the summer of 2019.

The Sydney-born ace never featured for the Foxes’ first-team but enjoyed loan spells with Mansfield Town, Peterborough United, Brentford, Barnsley, Wigan Athletic and Ipswich Town.

The 26-year-old played 30 Championship games in his first season at the KCOM Stadium but his efforts were not enough to prevent his side from being relegated.

Cardiff City may be in the market for a left-back with Joe Bennett’s current contract set to expire next month.

The 31-year-old is a key player for the Bluebirds but is yet to sign a new deal.

Preston could look to sign a new left-back after Andrew Hughes was converted into a centre-back in the second half of last season.

Josh Earl has returned from a loan spell with Burton Albion but he failed to make a major impact at the Pirelli Stadium.

In other news, Tottenham don’t want a big name who started their last five games to play for the club again.
