Sources: Cardiff City line up move for Crewe star Wintle after he snubs contract extension
Cardiff City are lining up a move for Crewe midfielder Ryan Wintle on a free transfer, Football Insider understands.
The defensive midfielder, 23, is out of contract next month and the League One club are resigned to losing him after he snubbed their extension offer.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that a number of Championship and League One clubs have expressed an interest in Wintle.
Cardiff manager Mick McCarthy is hoping to persuade the player to move to the Welsh capital.
The Championship outfit have already brought in Republic of Ireland striker James Collins on a free transfer from Luton Town and now McCarthy wants to raid the free agent market again to land Wintle.
He has established himself as one of the best young players in the EFL after impressing for Crewe over the last couple of seasons.

The former Stoke City youngster helped Crewe win promotion from League Two during the 2019-20 season and he has been a key man in David Artell’s side.
Wintle made 48 appearances in all competitions for Crewe this season, chipping in with two goals and two assists.
McCarthy sees him as a valuable addition to his plans at Cardiff next season.
Cardiff City narrowly missed out on the play-offs this season, finishing in eighth spot in the Championship.
McCarthy is determined to add more depth to his squad as he looks to mount a bid for promotion to the Premier League next term.
