Sources: Cardiff City open talks to sign Derby County star Ryan Allsop
Cardiff City are in talks to sign Derby County goalkeeper Ryan Allsop on a free transfer, Football Insider understands.
The 29-year-old is out of contract at Derby next month and he could leave following their relegation from the Championship.
A Cardiff source has told Football Insider that negotiations are underway over a deal and they are well placed to reach an agreement.
The second-tier outfit have been busy in this summer’s transfer market and Allsop could be the second new goalkeeper arrival following the signing of Jak Alnwick earlier this month.
Cardiff have also confirmed the arrivals of defender Jamilu Collins and highly-rated winger Ollie Tanner.
Allsop started last season second choice for Derby but finished with 30 league appearances after gazumping Kelle Roos in the pecking order.
The 29-year-old conceded 36 goals in the second tier, keeping nine clean sheets as the Rams dropped to League One.
Allsop has a wealth of experience at clubs like Bournemouth, Wycombe, Coventry, and Blackpool – and has made 71 career appearances in the Championship.
The shot-stopper is not the only Derby player set to depart the troubled club at the end of their contract.
Football Insider revealed earlier this week (17 May) that Sporting Kansas City have joined Fulham in the chase to sign attacker Tom Lawrence on a free transfer.
Alex Smithies and Dillon Phillips shared goalkeeping responsibilities for Cardiff last term as the Bluebirds finished 18th.
32-year-old Smithies is out of contract this summer, while Phillips has one year left to run on his deal.
