Celtic’s players are in awe of summer signing Fraser Forster behind the scenes, Football Insider understands.
The goalkeeper, 31, was signed on a season-long loan from Southampton just days before the end of the summer window after Scott Bain dislocated his finger.
A Celtic source has told Football Insider how the dressing room was initially sceptical that the club had signed a third proven keeper to supplement Scotland number one Bain and longstanding former Hoops and Tartan Army first choice Craig Gordon.
But Forster has won over his teammates with his excellence in training as well as the authority of his performances in matches, and many privately believe Bain has his work cut out reclaiming the jersey when he is fully fit.
The 6ft 7in Englishman has barely put a foot wrong in the five games in which he has played, which have yielded four SPL wins and a creditable 1-1 draw at Rennes in the Europa League.
Neil Lennon has been vindicated in signing a third senior keeper and bringing back a player to the club who made 197 matches under him during his first spell in charge.
Forster was available after slipping down the pecking order at Southampton, where he has a contract that runs until the summer of 2022.
Bain is expected to be out until around November and Lennon could then face a tricky task in keeping his three senior keepers happy.
