Celtic are assessing ex-Borussia Dortmund manager Lucien Favre as an alternative manager option in case Eddie Howe rejects their offer, Football Insider has learned.
The Glasgow giants are waiting on Howe to formally commit to the job after he reached a verbal agreement last week to become their next manager following talks in London.
It is Celtic’s hope and expectation that Howe will put pen to paper following the “wonderful” offer presented to him by the board.
But the club are not throwing all their eggs in one basket and are weighing up potential alternatives.
Favre, 63, is on their manager shortlist and considered a real contender if Howe doesn’t want the job.
He has been out of work since being dismissed by Dortmund in December but has an impressive track record after managing top-flight teams in Germany, France and his native Switzerland.

Among his managerial honours are two league titles in Switzerland with Zurich.
Favre had a two-and-a-half year spell at Dortmund, where he had an impressive 62 per cent win record, as well as four years at Borussia Mochengladbach and two years at French outfit Nice.
Football Insider revealed on Monday there is a concern among Celtic chiefs that Howe may be having second thoughts about the post.
The club are aware of a potential ambush from Crystal Palace, who are starting the process of finding their own new manager.
Burnley boss Sean Dyche has been targeted by Palace and they have already made contact with him, while Howe has also been approached.
At Celtic, a huge rebuild is needed to overhaul Rangers and supporters are eager that out-of-work Howe would get to work straight away.
