Celtic are plotting a late move for Sheffield Wednesday striker Jordan Rhodes after failing in their pursuit of Newcastle United’s Christian Atsu, Football Insider understands.
Hoops boss Neil Lennon is keen to bring in a new forward before the transfer window closes tonight despite already signing Polish striker Patryk Klimala this month.
A Celtic source has told Football Insider that Lennon still wants more forward cover and has turned his attention to Rhodes.
Wednesday may be willing to let the 14-times Scotland international move on as they look to bring in Connor Wickham on loan from Crystal Palace.
Celtic are in the market for forward reinforcements after Mikey Johnston sustained suspected knee ligament damage on Wednesday night.
Rhodes has been in and out of the Sheffield Wednesday side this season, making only 15 appearances in all competitions.
He spent last season on loan at Norwich, scoring nine goals in all competitions as the Canaries won promotion to the Premier League, but returned to Hillsborough at the end of the loan.
They made a deadline-day swoop for Newcastle United winger Atsu, as first revealed by Football Insider, but he opted to stay put.
Rhodes made his name with Huddersfield Town in League One, netting an impressive 87 times in 148 appearances before making a big-money move to Blackburn in 2012.
He has been prolific at Championship and League One level in English football, with 108 goals from 285 matches in the second tier and 70 goals from 122 appearances in the third tier.
In total, he has 208 club goals in English senior football.
