Sources: Chelsea actively working to sign Romeo Lavia in new twist

Chelsea are actively working to bring Southampton star Romeo Lavia to the club, sources have told Football Insider.

Lavia is also attracting interest from Man City, Arsenal and Man United, but the Blues are in pole position to sign him and are pressing ahead with a potential deal.

The 19-year-old joined the Saints from Man City last summer and put pen to paper on a five-year deal with the club.

The Belgium international is high up on Chelsea’ list of midfield targets and Football Insider has learned that they believe his profile fits their summer transfer plans.

Last week (19 March), Football Insider revealed that the midfielder is attracting strong interest from a number of Premier League clubs.

Man City have a £40million buy-back clause for Lavia but it does not activate until the summer of 2024 leaving the playing field wide open ahead of this year’s window.

City also have a 20 per cent sell-on for Lavia and has earned high praise from Kevin de Bruyne who insisted the youth product can become a “top player” in the future.

The teenager has been impressing clubs higher up the league and, with Southampton’s Premier League position hanging by a thread, Lavia could be convinced of a move away this summer.

Lavia has made 24 appearances for the Saints across all competitions this season and has scored one goal and provided one assist in those outings.

In other news, Chelsea fear Tottenham could now beat them to priority summer signing.
