Chelsea have joined the race to sign Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Graham Potter has informed the Blues board that he would like a new goalkeeper in the summer, and Leeds' 23-year-old shot-stopper has been highlighted as a potential target.

The Blues believe Meslier could be one of the cheaper options on their shopping list if Leeds were demoted to the Championship.

However, Football Insider sources revealed on Sunday (12 March) that Leeds have placed a £30million+ asking price on Meslier this summer.

The French goalkeeper has become a key player at Elland Road and has played every possible Premier League minute for the Whites this season.

Tottenham and Man United have previously been linked with a move for Meslier, but Chelsea are prepared to out-bid their rivals in order to secure his signature.

Potter has often preferred Kepa Arrizabalaga to Eduoard Mendy at Stamford Bridge this season, and the latter could be sold by Chelsea to raise funds.

Meslier joined Leeds initially on loan from French club Lorient in 2019, and the club triggered their option to buy him permanently after an impressive debut season.

After competing with Kiko Casilla for the No.1 spot, Meslier has since nailed down his spot as a regular starter and made a total of 118 appearances for Leeds.

During that time, he has kept 30 clean sheets for the Premier League outfit.
