Chelsea star Andreas Christensen has reached an agreement in principle to join Barcelona, Football Insider understands.

The defender, 25, is out of contract in the summer and talks over an extension have collapsed.

A Spanish source has told Football Insider that the Catalan club have agreed a deal in principle for Christensen to join on a free transfer.

It is expected the deal for the centre-back will be completed at the end of the season.

He is likely to be joined at Camp Nou by his teammate Cesar Azpilicueta, who has also been offered a contract by Barcelona.

Christensen has played 29 times for Chelsea this season, scoring two goals and providing one assist.

As it stands, the defender has made 156 appearances for Chelsea after joining the club on a free transfer from Brondby in February 2012.

He has been a vital player in the heart of the defence this season along with Azpilicueta and Antonio Rudiger though all three are out of contract at the end of the season.

However, he has only featured in three of the Blues' last nine league games after suffering with a back injury and coronavirus.

He is set to join a Barcelona side who are currently third in La Liga, 12 points behind table-toppers Real Madrid.

Chelsea's future remains up in the air with the shortlisted bidders set to submit their final takeover offers on 11 April.

As it stands, the Blues are unable to agree any new deals due to government sanctions on Roman Abramovich.
