Chelsea defender Bashir Humphreys has agreed a move to German side Paderborn, sources have told Football Insider.

The defender, 19, is set to fly out to Germany on Friday to undergo a medical and finalise his loan move to the Bundesliga second-tier side.

Chelsea have high hopes for the centre-back and feel a loan move to Germany is the next step in his development to gain valuable first-team experience.

Humphreys has been in and around the first-team picture at Chelsea in recent weeks after making his senior debut in the FA Cup clash at Manchester City earlier this month.

He was named on the bench for the recent Premier League games against Crystal Palace and Liverpool.

Humphreys has been with the Blues for six seasons having joined the academy at Under-15 level following a move from Reading.

After rising through the ranks at Cobham, Humphreys signed his first scholarship deal with the club in 2019 and then followed it up with his first professional contract in October 2021.

While Humphreys has been frequently involved with the Chelsea first team this season, he's also played regularly in Premier League 2 and the UEFA Youth League with the Under-21s.

He's played over 1,000 minutes of football for the youth side this season, scoring once in his 14 appearances.

Humphreys has also been involved in the youth setup at England, playing for both the Under-16 and Under-19 sides.

He was involved in the England Under-19s side that went on to win the UEFA European Under-19 Championship in 2022.
