Sources: Chelsea to explore sensational Haaland part-exchange deal

Chelsea are planning to explore a potential blockbuster part-exchange deal involving Erling Haaland and Timo Werner, Football Insider understands.

The Premier League big spenders are among the multiple elite clubs pursuing the Borussia Dortmund goal sensation, 20, going into the summer window.

A Chelsea source has told Football Insider the club believe there “could be a deal on for Haaland this summer”.

One possibility mooted at Stamford Bridge is a cash-plus-player deal for the giant striker with Werner and a hefty sum heading the other way.

It has been widely reported that Haaland has a release clause that becomes active in the summer of 2022 for around £68m.

Dortmund will also listen to offers for the striker this summer but it will cost a significantly higher fee to sign him even in a transfer market in which player prices are dramatically tumbling.

Chelsea recognise it would probably take a £100m deal, or fee, to lure Haaland in the upcoming window.

Football Insider revealed last week that it is possible Werner could quit Chelsea as early as this summer.

He has struggled to live up to his billing this season and the word is that the club do not believe he is quite at the level they had hoped.

By contrast, Haaland is one of the most sought-after players in the world and regarded as a rising global superstar.

He has scored 47 goals in 48 matches for Dortmund since joining from RB Salzburg in January of last year.

Haaland has banged in 31 goals and eight assists in 30 games this season, including a remarkable 10 strikes from just six Champions League matches.

Owner Roman Abramovich is likely to sanction more major spending in the upcoming window despite last year’s remarkable £250m rebuild.

In other news, Chelsea have lined up new contract talks with 28-year-old wanted by Premier League giants.
