Sources: Chelsea to sell two big names for £100m after FFP bombshell

Chelsea are prepared to sell both Mateo Kovacic and Mason Mount to raise funds this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The Blues have spent heavily since Todd Boehly’s arrival at Stamford Bridge and are aware that they need to sell players in order to continue their investment this summer.

Football Insider sources revealed on Thursday (30 March) that Chelsea have recorded the worst financial losses in the Premier League for the second successive year.

Chelsea recorded losses of £121million and in order to abide by financial fair play laws, they will have to offload a handful of players this summer.

Both Kovacic and Mount are out of contract in 2024, and the Chelsea board have decided that both could be sold to raise funds while also making sure they don’t leave for free in a year’s time.

Chelsea are hoping to raise close to £100million by selling both players this summer.

Liverpool have shown a strong interest in Mount, with Jurgen Klopp eager to reinforce his midfield department in the summer.

Chelsea have been in talks with the England international over a new deal, but this site’s sources revealed earlier this month that Mount is now set to leave after negotiations collapsed.

Kovacic has also attracted interest due to his precarious contract situation, and the Premier League club will hope to sell the Croatian for a profit after signing him for £40million from Real Madrid in 2019.

During his four years in England, Kovacic has made 211 appearances for the Blues, while Mount is into his sixth year at Stamford Bridge and has racked up 192 appearances.
