Livingston have agreed to sign Rangers rising star Ben Williamson, Football Insider understands.

The midfielder, 19, is set to join David Martindale's side and the deal is expected to go through before the start of the new Scottish Premiership season.

Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that Rangers have given the green light to Williamson heading to Livi on a season-long loan.

Manager Steven Gerrard and his coaching staff are keen for Williamson to acquire senior experience at a top-tier side.

The Scotland-U21 international spent the second half of last season with Arbroath in what was the first loan switch of his career.

He made 17 league starts in the Scottish Championship last term in what was deemed an extremely beneficial experience.

The next stage in the teenager's development will now be a spell at West Lothian.

Williamson is a central midfielder who can operate as the anchorman or in more advanced positions.

He has set to make his senior Rangers bow but has made a big impression at youth-team level and has also been awarded his first Under-21 cap for Scotland.

That is a measure of how highly he is rated by his country as well as his club.

Williamson will be keen to impress to the extent that he lands an extension to his Rangers contract, which expires next year.

Ten youngsters were released by the Glasgow giants earlier this summer, including Ciaran Dickson after he signed a new contract in January.
