Inter Milan are unlikely to re-sign on-loan Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed that the 29-year-old's form has put off Inter and other top European sides and, in turn, opened the door to a possible move to Saudi Arabia this summer.

Saudi officials want to increase the profile of their top league and a move for Lukaku is an attractive proposition for a number of top Pro League sides.

Chelsea

Contrary to reports suggesting Everton or Aston Villa could be a potential destination for the Belgium international, it is understood that his wages are likely to be a stumbling block in any possible Premier League move.

Lukaku earns a reported £325,000-a-week at Chelsea - and the Londoners are subsidising a substantial part of that salary while he is on loan at Inter.

Sources with knowledge of the 29-year-old's situation have revealed that Blues boss Graham Potter has "no faith" in the striker's ability to solve the club's goalscoring problems.

It is understood that the Stamford Bridge club will instead enter the market for a box-office striker this summer.

Lukaku's narrow list of potential suitors and advancing years could now mean he is forced to consider a move to the Middle East.

Cristiano Ronaldo joined Saudi club Al Nassr on a blockbuster deal worth a reported £175million per year in December 2022.

Chelsea

Lukaku has scored five goals in 19 appearances for Inter this season - a campaign which has been plagued by poor form and a number of injury problems.

He managed 15 goals in 44 Chelsea appearances last term - but his reported £97.5million return to Stamford Bridge was widely condemned as a failure.
