Sources: Coventry City agree to sign Chelsea star Clarke-Salter after breakthrough
Coventry City have agreed to sign Chelsea defender Jake Clarke-Salter, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
The Championship club have beaten off competition from clubs in England and overseas to win the race for the 23-year-old.
A Coventry source has told Football Insider that Clarke-Salter has been granted permission by Chelsea to join on a season-long loan after a breakthrough in talks.
He will join Mark Robbins’ side as they look to break into the top half of the Championship.
Like many Chelsea youngsters, Clarke-Slater has spent plenty of time on loan during his career.
The centre half spent the second half of last season on loan at Birmingham City after spending the previous campaign on loan at St Andrew’s.

Loan moves to Bristol Rovers, Sunderland and Vitesse preceded Clarke-Salter’s switch to the Blues.
The most successful loan spell was with Vitesse as he made 36 appearances during the 2018-19 season.
Clarke-Salter offers a degree of versatility to Coventry as he is also a capable left-back.
He played there on a few occasions for Birmingham last season.
The defender has accumulated 40 appearances in the second tier during his career so arrives as an experienced player at Coventry’s level.
He joins Ian Maatsen, who has also joined the club on loan from Chelsea.
The orthodox left-back has experience of playing with Clarke-Salter in the Premier League 2.
The Sky Blues have also strengthened their front line with the free signings of Martyn Waghorn and Bright Enobakhare.
