Coventry City lead the chase for Derby County sensation Louie Sibley, Football Insider understands.

Derby are facing a fight to keep hold of Sibley, 20, following their relegation from the Championship to League One.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Coventry are lining up a bid for the England Under-20 international amid competing interest from rival second-tier clubs.

Leeds United previously tracked Sibley and ex-manager Marcelo Bielsa was believed to be a big admirer.

The versatile star's current Derby contract is set to run until the end of the 2023-24 campaign.

The Rams have already seen a number of promising young talents depart this summer following the club's relegation to the third tier.

Festy Ebosele, Malcolm Ebiowei, Lee Buchanan, and Louie Watson have all left for pastures new.

However, Derby announced on Friday (1 July) that local property group Clowes Developments have completed a purchase of the stricken club.

The fallen giants can now plan for life in League One despite the future of academy graduate Sibley hanging in the balance.

The 20-year-old, who predominately plays in central midfield, burst onto the scene in 2020 - scoring four goals in his first two Championship starts.

Sibley, who is capped by England at Under-20 level, has gone on to make 77 appearances for Derby, scoring eight goals and grabbing four assists.

The youngster has played across the front three as well as in defensive midfield - displaying impressive levels of flexibility throughout a tough period in Derby's history.

Coventry finished 12th in the Championship during the 2021-22 campaign under the stewardship of Mark Robins.
