Sources: Coventry City in talks to sign Bristol City defender Jay Dasilva

Coventry City are in talks to sign Bristol City defender Jay Dasilva before Tuesday’s transfer deadline, sources have told Football Insider.

Dasilva, 24, is in the final six months of his contract at Bristol City and Coventry are hoping to lure the former Chelsea youngster away from Ashton Gate.

Coventry are keen to bring in a new left-back and identified Dasilva as their top target this month.

Dasilva, who joined Bristol City in the summer of 2019 after initially impressing on loan, has made 25 appearances in all competitions for the Robins this season.

The Luton-born defender started his career at local side Luton Town, joining the academy in 2007 and spending five years in the youth setup before being scouted by Chelsea.

The Blues persuaded Dasilva aged 13 to swap Luton for Cobham, and he ended up spending four years developing his talent in west London.

At Under-15s level, Dasilva made his debut for Chelsea’s Under-18s, highlighting just how highly thought of he was in the academy.

He went on to win three FA Youth Cups during his time at the club, with him and teammate Jake Clarke-Salter joining five of the famed Busby Babes as the only players to ever achieve the feat.

Chelsea did sign Dasilva to a professional contract in 2016 but he failed to make a senior appearance for the club and instead headed out on a number of loan spells.

He spent the end of the 2016/17 season and the entirety of the 2017/18 season on loan at Charlton Athletic, where he impressed and ended up winning the Fans’ Player of the Year award.

A loan at Bristol City followed in 2018/19 and after making 28 league appearances for the Robins they decided to sign him permanently on a four-year contract.
