Sources: Deeney set for Birmingham City medical as he quits Watford
Troy Deeney is set for a Birmingham City medical after agreeing to quit Watford, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
The veteran striker has decided to end his lengthy Hornets association to head to the Championship club ahead of tomorrow’s deadline.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Deeney is booked in for a Birmingham medical after agreeing terms on a free transfer.
Watford revealed on 27 August the player and club were discussing “the best option” for the season ahead.
The legendary forward featured from the bench in the Hornets’ opening two Premier League games but was not in the matchday squad this weekend.
The Birmingham-born star is now set to complete a move to the club he supported as a boy.

Deeney is such a big Blues fan that he has the club’s crest tattooed on his leg.
Watford have opted to let the Englishman leave after 11 years as they have significantly bolstered their attacking ranks over the summer.
The Premier League new boys have added Ashley Fletcher, Cucho Hernández, Emmanuel Dennis and Joshua King during the transfer window.
Deeney will leave Vicarage Road as one of the most iconic figures in Watford’s recent history.
He has scored 140 times in 419 games across all competitions for the club – just 18 fewer than record goalscorer Luther Blisset.
Birmingham’s top priority this summer has been adding a new striker.
As quoted by Birmingham Live, Lee Bowyer admitted on Saturday (28 August) he likes Deeney who “seems like a winner”.
