Man United are keeping tabs on Mateo Kovacic’s situation at Chelsea ahead of a potential summer move, sources have told Football Insider.
The Red Devils are in the market for a new central midfielder this summer and are keeping a close eye on whether a deal can be struck for the Blues star.
The 29-year-old is entering the final year of his deal at Stamford Bridge, and Chelsea may be forced to slash their asking price to avoid losing him for free.
Kovacic is among a number of midfield targets on United’s radar this season, with Erik ten Hag looking to add more depth and quality to his squad.
Football Insider sources revealed on Friday (12 May) that United have set their sights on signing Everton star Amadou Onana this summer.
It is understood that Chelsea have made contact with Kovacic’s camp over a new deal with the Blues hierarchy keen to keep him on board at Stamford Bridge.

But talks between the two parties have collapsed and a deal is not close to being agreed.
United are following the situation and are weighing up whether to bid for Kovacic this summer.
Kovacic initially joined Chelsea in 2018 on loan from Real Madrid, and his move was made permanent a year later after he impressed during his temporary spell.
He has racked up 219 appearances during his six years at the club, scoring six goals and providing 15 assists.
