Sources: Eddie Howe green lights Newcastle United signing Mykhaylo Mudryk after £26m bid

Newcastle United have set their sights on signing Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk, sources have told Football Insider.

Brentford had a £26million bid rejected for the forward, 21, last month and he’s also been linked with Arsenal.

Newcastle were in the market for another attacker before the transfer window shut but were unable to land their top targets following the club-record Alexander Isak signing.

Magpies boss Eddie Howe is set to revisit the situation in January as he looks to add another A-list goal threat.

The manager is believed to be a firm admirer of Mudryk and has given the green light to a concerted pursuit.

The 21-year-old winger scored two goals and assisted nine in 19 appearances for Shakhtar Donetsk last season.

He has started the 2022-23 season in fine form, bagging two goals in two Champions League outings

He is primarily a left-winger but can also play on the right-hand side of the attack as well as through the middle.

Mudryk has featured more prominently on the left when playing for Donestk but he has also dropped into the number 10 role on occasion.

He also has five Ukraine caps to his name after making his international debut in May.

Newcastle have once again struggled for goals this season and questions remain over the reliability of Callum Wilson who found himself sidelined after three appearances this term.

The Magpies have only won once in the 2022-23 Premier League with those three points coming on the opening day of the season against Nottingham Forest.

Newcastle are next in action against Bournemouth on Saturday (17 September).
