Sources: EFL club agree to sign Rangers 24-yr-old

Rangers winger Brandon Barker has agreed to join Oxford United on loan, Football Insider understands.

The 24-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Ibrox in recent weeks.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider the deal is expected to go through by the 11 pm cut-off.

Barker has played just three minutes of Scottish Premiership football since the Light Blues’ 8-0 victory over Hamilton Academical at the beginning of November.

Rangers have already offloaded Jordan Jones to Oxford’s League One rivals Sunderland on a temporary basis and Barker is set to follow him down south.

The Englishman is a product of the Manchester City academy and moved to Ibrox in the summer of 2019.

While at City he enjoyed loan spells with Rotherham United, NAC Breda, Hibernian and Preston North End.

He has struggled with injuries throughout his career and has never nailed down a regular place in Steven Gerrard’s starting XI.

Barker has played 26 times across all competitions for the Gers and has scored three goals but not provided an assist.

Oxford have already added Blackburn Rovers defender Joe Grayson on loan today as they eye promotion to the Championship.

Karl Robinson’s side recorded their seventh consecutive league victory with a 1-0 win over Fleetwood Town at the weekend as they moved to eighth in the table.

They are now just three points behind Sunderland who occupy the final play-off place and have a game in hand.

In other news, a key Rangers target has agreed to join Wycombe Wanderers from AFC Bournemouth.
