Everton are confident of signing Wolves star Morgan Gibbs-White before the transfer cut-off, sources from the club have told Football Insider on Thursday.

The Merseysiders have had an initial offer of £22.5million rejected for the 22-year-old.

But Everton have not given up hope of a deal this summer and are still working on getting a deal over the finish line.

Toffees chiefs have been encouraged by the fact the former England Under-21 international is keen on a move to Goodison Park and Wolves are strapped for cash.

Nottingham Forest have also tabled a £20million+ bid for Gibbs-White and are expected to return with a new offer.

Everton are also lining up an improved bid of their own as they look to seal what would be a box-office signing.

Football Insider first revealed the Merseysiders' interest in the Wolves man earlier this summer (4 July).

Wolves boss Bruno Lage has been open about the future of Gibbs-White in the last week - insisting he wants to "finalise" a deal to keep the 22-year-old at Molineux.

The midfielder has reportedly been offered a new deal but is yet to sign it - and Lage refused to rule out selling the star to avoid him running down his current deal - which expires in June 2024.

Gibbs-White enjoyed a stellar loan campaign for Sheffield United in the Championship last term, scoring 13 goals and supplying a further 10.

The midfielder played 90 minutes as Wolves were defeated 2-1 by Leeds United in their season opener last week (6 August).

Everton have already moved to add Dwight McNeil in an attacking berth but will need to replace the output of Dominic Calvert-Lewin after his crushing injury blow.
