Everton are bidding for PSV Eindhoven sensation Cody Gakpo as Chelsea go to huge lengths to sign Anthony Gordon, sources have told Football Insider.

Everton are braced to lose their prize asset in the final days of the window and are assessing potential attacking replacements.

One winger firmly in their sights is Gakpo, 23, amid interest from Premier League rivals including Man United.

Football Insider revealed last Thursday (25 August) that United had submitted a £25m take-it-or-leave-it bid for Gakpo that was independent of their pursuit of Antony.

Erik ten Hag's team have now agreed an £85m deal for the Ajax sensation and are set to complete the deal before the window shuts.

Gakpo, who is under contract at PSV until 2026, has made a strong start to the new season with four goals and six assists in eight matches in all competitions.

He continued his fine run with a goal and two assists in Sunday's 6-1 league demolition of Excelsior.

Gakpo was named Dutch Footballer of the Year in 2021-22 after netting 21 times and laying on 15 assists in 47 outings, helping PSV win the KNVB Cup along the way.

Everton's pursuit of Gakpo has been boosted by PSV's elimination from the Champions League play-offs at the hands of Rangers last week (24 August).
