Everton rising star Joseph Anderson is arriving at Sunderland to undergo a medical, sources have told Football Insider.

The centre-back, 21, has been granted permission to finalise a move to the Championship giants after agreeing terms.

Football Insider broke the news early on Sunday that Sunderland's bid for Anderson had been accepted by Everton.

The Black Cats have lined up a deal for the Everton Under-21s captain after identifying him as capable of strengthening their back line for the second half of the season.

Joseph has made 13 appearances in the Premier League 2 for the Toffees' Under-21s this season with 12 of those being starts.

The defender signed his first professional contract at Everton in the summer of 2019, penning a two-year deal.

In July 2022, Anderson signed a new two-year contract with Everton to keep him at the Club until the end of June 2024.

Sunderland have already had one Everton player on loan this season in the form of Ellis Simms.

The striker, 22, was recalled by the Premier League club on 1 January after thriving at the Black Cats on loan in the first half of the campaign.

14 of those 18 League One appearances were starts as the striker racked up seven goals to help Sunderland keep the Championship playoff places within reach.

Leeds United

The Black Cats have also bolstered their attack with the loan signing of Joe Gelhardt from Leeds United.

The highly-rated youngster was struggling for game time at Elland Road under Jesse Marsch.
