Derby County are finalising the signing of striker David McGoldrick after he completed a medical on Monday (4 July), Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The League One outfit have agreed terms with the former Sheffield United forward and are closing in on a deal.

A Derby source has told Football Insider that the deal is not quite done yet but they are hopeful it will be completed soon.

They have swooped for the striker, who is a free agent, after a potential move to Middlesbrough stalled.

Chris Wilder wanted to bring the 34-year-old, who he worked with at Sheffield United, to the Riverside but he now looks set to join Derby.

The Rams have been busy rebuilding their squad as they prepare for the 2022-23 campaign in League One.

Local property developer David Clowes formally completed his takeover of the club last week (1 July) and since then they have officially announced three new signings.

Tom Bharkuizen has moved from Preston North End on a free transfer while Joe Wildsmith and Mendez-Laing have signed from Sheffield Wednesday - all three have signed two-year deals.

McGoldrick only managed 19 Championship appearances in 2021-22 as injury kept him out of the Sheffield United side from February.

He will offer Liam Rosenior vast EFL experience but he has not played in League One since the 2012-13 campaign with Coventry City.

At League One level, he has 25 goals in 55 games across his time at Coventry, Sheffield Wednesday, Port Vale and Bournemouth.
