Sources: Peterborough in pole position to sign Lincoln City star Grant

Peterborough United are in pole position to sign Lincoln City playmaker Jorge Grant, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The Posh have been working on landing the 26-year-old since securing promotion to the Championship.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Peterborough are now the frontrunners for Grant’s signature.

He is said to be keen to join a Championship club after Lincoln missed out on promotion from League One when they lost the play-off final to Blackpool.

Grant has a contract that runs until 2023 but it is believed to include a release clause.

The midfielder was a standout performer for the Imps during the 2020/21 campaign.

He scored 17 goals across all competitions, 13 in League One, to finish as joint top scorer at the LNER Stadium with Anthony Scully.

He also contributed 13 assists and was named both Lincoln’s players’ and fans’ player of the season.

His impressive displays have caught the eye of numerous scouts across the Football League.

However, it is understood Peterborough are leading the chase after sealing promotion from League One.

The Posh finished second in the table, two points behind champions Hull City and 10 points ahead of Lincoln.

The Imps beat Sunderland in the play-off semi-finals but were defeated 2-1 by Blackpool in the final.

It is understood Grant would be open to leaving the club he joined back in 2019 to move up the divisions.

The former Nottingham Forest man already has 17 second-tier appearances under his belt from his time at the City Ground.

However, the majority of his appearances have come in League One and Two for the likes of Lincoln, Notts County, Luton and Mansfield.

In other news, Peterborough United are plotting to re-sign a former attacking star.
