Leeds United are set to complete the signing of Barcelona left-back Junior Firpo, Football Insider has learned.

United have agreed to pay £12.8m rising to £15.5million including add-ons for the 24-year-old.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Firpo is jetting in to England today to undergo a medical and put pen to paper on a contract.

He is expected to sign a four-year deal.

It is a major coup for Leeds, who fended of interest from Italian giants AC Milan and Inter Milan, while he was also linked with Southampton.

The Saints completed the signing on Friday of previous Leeds target Romain Perraud.

Leeds have made the capture of a senior left-back has a priority this summer regardless of whether Ezgjan Alioski remains at the club.

He has yet to accept the Whites' offer of a new and improved contract to replace his deal which expired on Tuesday.

Firpo has pedigree and top-level experience from playing in the Champions League and the Spanish top flight.

He was not a regular starter for Barca last season but still made 18 appearances in all competitions while deputising for long-established first choice Jordi Alba.

Capped by Spain at Under-21 level, Firpo is an attacking left-back who is a regular scorer and creator of goals.

He has particularly effective going forward at former club Real Betis, who he swapped for Barca in 2019 for a fee of around £16million.

Leeds have moved for Firpo after previously holding talks with Perraud and Huesca's Javi Galan.
