Sources: Gallagher planning to reject Tottenham offer after Chelsea twist

Conor Gallagher wants to stay and fight for his Chelsea place amid ongoing interest from Tottenham, sources have told Football Insider.

The Blues star has started the first three games of the 2023-24 campaign but could be dumped out of Mauricio Pochettino’s side by new signing Romeo Lavia in weeks to come.

There is ongoing speculation about his future with Chelsea considering letting him go for the right price – but Gallagher remains reluctant to move away from Stamford Bridge before next week’s deadline (1 September).

West Ham reportedly saw a £40million bid for Gallagher rejected earlier this summer.

Both Tottenham and the Irons have received £100million-plus fees this summer thanks to the respective sales of Harry Kane and Declan Rice to Bayern Munich and Arsenal – and are expected to be active in the final week of the transfer window.

Gallagher featured heavily in pre-season and has played 255 minutes of competitive football already this term with new signing Lavia not yet ready to feature.

The England international’s chances of regular football have also been helped by the injuries to Christopher Nkunku and Carney Chukwuemeka.

Gallagher made 45 appearances across all competitions in the 2022-23 season – scoring three and assisting one.

The former Crystal Palace loanee has less than two years left to run on his contract at Stamford Bridge.

Tottenham are in the market for a new central midfielder with Rodrigo Bentancur still out through injury and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg linked with a late exit.

Spurs started with Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr in midfield in an impressive win over Man United last week (19 August).
