Graham Potter has set his sights on becoming the next manager of Southampton if they remain in the Premier League, sources have told Football Insider.

Potter, who was sacked by Chelsea last week (2 April), is a firm target for the Saints as well as managerless Leicester City this summer.

The 47-year-old believes a move to St Mary's Stadium would be a better fit for him if Southampton are in the Premier League next term.

In that event, he is willing to snub Leicester for a move to Southampton - where he spent eight months as a player.

But following his recent sacking at Chelsea, the former Brighton boss informed the Midlands club he is not willing to join a new club until the summer window.

Leicester have now turned their attention to appointing a caretaker manager until the end of the season.

Both Southampton and Leicester are in serious danger of dropping to the Championship after long spells in the top flight.

The Saints are currently managed by Ruben Selles, who was originally appointed caretaker following the sackings of Ralph Hasenhuttl and Nathan Jones this season.

Southampton

Selles' side are four points from safety in 20th place with nine games to play - including Saturday's (8 April) home clash with Man City.

Meanwhile, 19th-place Leicester are two points inside the drop zone - and face relegation-threatened Bournemouth on Saturday.
