Sources: Ipswich make contact over signing Man United sensation Fernandez
Ipswich Town have registered their interest in signing Manchester United sensation Alvaro Fernandez, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
Fernandez, 18, has caught the eye for United’s Under-23s this season and is regarded as one of the best young prospects at the club after joining from Real Madrid in the summer of 2020.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna is hoping his connections at former club United will help him lure the left-back to Portman Road on loan.
Contact has been made over a potential temporary deal that the League One big hitters want to wrap up this month.
McKenna took over at Ipswich last month (16 December) after being a key part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s coaching staff at Old Trafford.
Fernandez trained with the senior squad at Man United when McKenna was working with Solskjaer at the club.
The teenager has scored three times and provided four assists in 19 games across all competitions for the youth team.
In 35 games at Premier League 2 level over the last two seasons, the Spain Under-19 international has seven assists and three goals to his name.
A move to Portman Road would give him his first taste of senior football.
McKenna revealed today (7 January), via the East Anglia Daily Times, he wants to improve his squad as they look to climb the League One table.
The Tractor Boys currently sit in 11th-place and are 11 points behind the play-off places.
