Ipswich Town are set to sign Bristol City midfielder Tyreeq Bakinson, Football Insider understands.

The League One outfit have agreed the terms of a loan deal with the Championship club for the 23-year-old.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Bakinson has opted to join Ipswich in search of regular first-team football.

The deal is expected to be completed in the coming days.

Bristol City need to offload players to enable them to bring in new signings this month.

As such, they have given Bakinson the green light to leave the club temporarily this month.

The versatile midfielder has been a regular among the first-team squad this season, with 14 appearances under his belt.

He had a run of seven consecutive starts in the Championship between October and December.

However, he has since dropped out of the starting XI in recent weeks.

Bakinson is contracted at Ashton Gate until 2023, having agreed his current terms in May 2019.

The Robins triggered a one-year extension clause in his contract back in November.

The Luton Town academy graduate has played 54 times for Bristol City to date, with five goals under his belt.

The midfielder has also spent time out on loan in League Two with Plymouth Argyle and Newport County.

He looks set to join an Ipswich Town side currently sitting 11th in League One.
