Sources: Jose Sa ready to quit Wolves after fans turn against him

Goalkeeper Jose Sa is keen to quit Wolves this summer after the club’s fans turned against him, sources have told Football Insider.

The Molineux faithful were highly critical of the 30-year-old’s performances prior to his recent dropping, and that is believed to have upset the shot-stopper.

Sa, who is a client of Jorge Mendes’ Gestifute agency, is now likely to instruct his representatives to discuss the possibility of leaving Wolves with club chiefs.

An exit for the former Olympiakos star would leave the Midlands club in need of a new first-choice goalkeeper in the summer window.

Sa, who has had two seasons as the first-choice shot-stopper at Molineux, has made 35 Premier League starts in the 2022-23 campaign.

However, he was dropped to the bench for the trip to Man United earlier this month (13 May) and remained there for the 1-1 draw with Everton on Saturday (20 May).

Backup goalkeeper Daniel Bentley, who was brought in by Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui in the January window, has started the last two games.

Sa arrived at the Midlands club from Olympiakos in July 2021 for a reported fee of around £6.25million, signing a contract which runs until June 2026.

He scooped the players’ player of the season and supporters’ player of the season awards after impressing in his debut season at Molineux.

It was revealed earlier this season that he had been playing through the pain barrier with a broken wrist sustained in August.

Sa has made 75 total appearances for Wolves, conceding 92 goals and keeping 23 clean sheets.

In other news, Lopetegui could quit Wolves at end of the season amid new concerns.
