Sources: Kalvin Phillips tells Man City teammates to 'watch out' for dazzling Leeds youngster
Kalvin Phillips has told Man City teammates he is a huge admirer of Leeds United attacker Sam Greenwood, sources have told Football Insider.
The 20-year-old has broken into the United team this season and played the full 90 minutes of his team's 3-1 Premier League defeat to City last week (28 December).
It is believed that Phillips warned his Man City superstar teammates in the pre-match warm-ups to "watch out" for Greenwood's set-piece deliveries.
The rising star subsequently took two of Leeds' three corners in the match, one of which they scored from in the 74th minute - with Pascal Struijk converting his inch-perfect delivery.
Greenwood also took two free-kicks in the 64th and 82nd minutes, one blocked by the wall and the other went narrowly over the crossbar.
The ex-Arsenal youngster is expected to feature for Leeds in their FA Cup clash against Cardiff City on Sunday (8 January) as he gets increasingly more first-team action.
He played shoulder-to-shoulder with Phillips before the England midfielder departed for the Etihad Stadium.
Greenwood was rewarded with a new four-year contract last summer (2022) after playing a part in the Whites' rally against relegation in the 2021-22 campaign.
Fellow youngsters Joe Gelhardt and Crysencio Summerville also penned new deals - with the latter making a huge impact at Elland Road this term.
Greenwood, who came through as a striker, has carved out a midfield role for himself at Leeds United.
He has made 10 senior appearances already this season and netted his first Whites goal with a curling effort during the 4-3 win over Bournemouth in November.
The Sunderland-born talent made his England Under-21 debut in 2021, scoring against Georgia's youth side.
Leeds United sit 14th in the Premier League following their 2-2 draw against struggling West Ham last time out.
They face Aston Villa on 13 January after taking on Cardiff in cup action on Sunday.
