Birmingham City manager Lee Bowyer is fighting for his job, Football Insider understands.

The 45-year-old has struggled to make an impact at the Blues even though they are almost guaranteed now to stay up and avoid relegation this season.

A Birmingham source has told Football Insider that Bowyer’s position is under growing threat and there is a possibility he could be sacked before the season ends.

The former Charlton Athletic boss is said to have a tense relationship with Craig Gardner, who was appointed technical director by the club last summer.

Bowyer has just over a year remaining on his contract at St. Andrew's.

The Blues appointed Bowyer as their manager 12 months ago following the departure of Aitor Karanka.

Bowyer secured an 18th-placed finish for Birmingham City last season.

There has been little to no improvement in this campaign, with the club currently 20th in the Championship with four games remaining.

City lost 4-2 to Coventry at St. Andrew's on Saturday despite taking a two-goal lead in the game.

Speaking to club media after the defeat (15 April), Bowyer lamented his side being "too soft" but insisted "the scoreline looks a lot worse than the performance was."

Birmingham travel to Blackpool tomorrow in a game which could prove decisive for Bowyer.

He has won 17 of his 55 games in charge of the Blues and has a point-per-game average of just 1.18.
