Sources: Leeds make move to sign Rangers sensation Jack Wylie
Leeds United have joined Arsenal in the chase for Rangers sensation Jack Wylie, sources have told Football Insider.
The teenage defender has caught the eye of scouts from the two Premier League big hitters while playing for the Glasgow giants’ youth sides and also for Scotland Under-16s.
The 15-year-old is not eligible to sign professional forms until he turns 16 in January raising fears that his English suitors could look to lure him away from Ibrox.
Leeds have registered their interest in Wylie as they step up their pursuit.
The Yorkshire club have a proven track record of signing young talent in recent years and have placed a big focus on youth recruitment under director of football Victor Orta.
That could give them the edge over agreeing a deal ahead of the January deadline.
The Elland Road club moved to secure the signature of highly-rated 18-year-old Italy international Wilfried Gnonto in the summer window to bolster their impressive youth ranks.
Joe Gelhardt, Sam Greenwood, and Crysensio Summerville are the other gems emerging from the Whites’ youth system after penning new contracts during the off-season.
According to the Daily Record (6 October), Arsenal sent youth scout Lee Herron to watch Wylie in action for Scotland’s Under-16 side against Denmark last month.
Rangers only recently lost starlet Rory Wilson to the Premier League, with Steven Gerrard raiding his former club to bring the highly-regarded forward to Aston Villa.
Football Insider broke the news earlier this year (28 March) that the forward rejected the most lucrative first-year professional deal in the Glasgow club’s history in order to seal his Ibrox exit.
