Leeds United have tabled a contract offer to Barcelona starlet Rafa Mujica, Football Insider understands.
Director of football Victor Orta and his recruitment team are working on a deal to sign the forward, 20, on a free transfer this summer.
A Leeds source has told Football Insider that Orta has presented an offer of a long-term contract to Mujica as he looks to recruit another player from his native Spain.
The youngster, who has been capped by Spain at Under-19 level, has been playing regularly for Barcelona B in Spain’s regionalised third tier this season.
He has scored seven goals from 33 appearances and won admirers for his ability to play anywhere across the front line, including as the central spearhead and on both flanks.
The Gran Canaria-born attacker is yet to break into the Barcelona first team and is ready to progress his career by joining the Spanish invasion at the Championship giants, who suffered play-off heartache on Wednesday night.
Leeds have made some big-name signings from Spain since Orta was charged with recruitment, including January arrival Kiko Casilla and summer-of-2017 recruit Samuel Saiz.
United have also strengthened their Under-23s set-up with a number of signings from Orta’s homeland, although some of these have struggled to settle and returned to Spain.
