Leicester City and Southampton have turned their attention to signing in-demand Everton striker Tom Cannon, sources have told Football Insider.

A number of Championship clubs are chasing Cannon's signature before Friday's 11pm deadline.

Middlesbrough have already submitted a £4m bid for the 20-year-old Republic of Ireland youth international.

Now Leicester and Southampton are exploring moves for Cannon, who had a successful spell on loan at Preston North End last season.

Everton are ready to cash in on the striker for the right offer having recently brought in Beto to add to their forward options.

Cannon's current contract at Goodison Park runs until 2025 after signing a professional deal back in 2021 when he turned 18.

The forward has been with the Toffees since he was ten years old and has been an important asset for the Merseyside club's youth teams.

Cannon has scored 51 goals in 97 appearances for Everton at both Under-18 and Under-21 level.

Cannon has made just one appearance for the Toffees this season, a one minute cameo in the 1-0 defeat to Wolves last weekend (26 August) and was an unused sub in their two previous Premier League games.

The Ireland youth international was left out of the squad for last night's (30 August) 2-1 Carabao Cup win over Doncaster.
